Ahh, the week of misunderstandings

Let's review the facts: I decide to delete my MySpace account and posted to my personal blog as to why. I get mostly support for this decision, but two dissenters:

1) Someone who was on my MySpace friends list takes offense to my leaving and decides to create a Blogger account to comment on my blog (in all caps) and tell me I'm pretentious. Umm, yeah.

2) Someone else who was on my MySpace friends list also takes offense and feels the need to leave me blog comments anonymously. This is someone who I genuinely like and feel bad I've offended.

I think the moon is in the house of Misunderstanding or something this week. A few truths to consider and clear up right now:

1) YES, I can log IP addresses and see where my traffic's coming from. I have software on the site to do it. I don't do it to be an asshole. I do it because I'm fascinated as to how people get to my site. I work at a major dotcom, and it's part of my job to use Web Trends to track traffic. So I thought I'd practice on my own blog. However, when someone posts borderline abusive and hateful comments on my site, I feel the need to see who's doing it.

2) Nonstop memes are stupid. I think we can all agree. And yes, I started some of them. That's neither here nor there. But between making up my own memes and reading others', I was wasting too much time. Time I could have been spending working or in, as I call it, the three-dimensional world. So I decided to cut down on life clutter and kill my account.

Anyone who really knows me offline, today, March 4, 2006, knows I am a good, honest person. Anyone who knows me only through a computer or through the lens of the past sees what they want to see. This is yet another reason I left MySpace.

And now, on to stuff that really matters, like...
