Stick to singing, babe

Just ran across this article that says Mariah is going to try acting again. Holy mother of all creatures great and small!

M and I had deluxo Dish Network at one point, and I caught Litter, err, Glitter on one of the premium channels. We howled all the way through it. It was pathetic. (Check out these movie quotes.) Now, granted, Mariah's timing on this project was impeccable -- she released the soundtrack album on September 11, 2001, and the movie not long after -- but it was a bad, self-indulgent flick. And it bombed. Like Jon Stewart said: "We think Osama Bin Laden is hiding in some desolate place. Like a movie theater showing Glitter."

Mariah is my guilty pleasure. I get crap about liking her all the time -- especially since my cell ringtone used to be We Belong Together. (Lurve that song.) Her voice is amazing. But she's undeniably crazy. And while I'm no sylph, she has gotten f-a-t. That's fine, but don't wear skanky, skinny-girl clothes if you've put on that much weight. If you've got a voice like that, there is some forgiveness of the portly factor -- just look at Aretha. But just because you had the best-selling album of 2005 and won a bunch of awards DOES NOT give you carte blanche to unleash whatever-the-Christ-you-want on the entertainment-consuming public. Please go make another album and shut the fuck up -- on screen and off. Thank you.
