I'm a believer

For years, I was an American car snob. I only bought Fords or Mercurys. I have now gone over to the Dark Side with the purchase of the Camry. And lemme tell you, you can call it boring, but I LOVE MY CAR. (Cue M cackling as he drives off in his Mazda, crowing in his Wicked Witch of the West voice, "I knew you'd see reason!")

Consumer Reports released its car ratings the other day, and big surprise, Asian carmakers were big winners. I can't believe I was so stubborn for so long about only buying American.

I do think a lot of people have come over to my way of thinking. But there are a few holdouts who may call me un-American because my car wasn't made in the USA. You know what? If American carmakers could make a car to the level of a Toyota or Honda, I'd buy it in two seconds. As the article says, "An 8-year-old Toyota had about the same number of problems as a 2- or 3-year old vehicle from General Motors or Ford, according to the survey of the magazine's readers." How can you argue with that? I'm as loyal as a golden retriever, but I ain't stupid.
