Out of commission on Good Friday

I worked a 12-hour day yesterday just in case I felt like ass today and couldn't go in. Guess what? I woke up feeling like complete crap. So I called out. Two days this week. Sigh. The Christine-guilt-o-meter is on full blast, but what can you do? I called the good doctor, and he hooked me up hardcore with some Zithro. It's only three days of drugs, so hopefully I will be on the mend enough to enjoy my Easter dinner.

I basically laid on the couch today and read. This is my idea of heaven. I had picked up Jonathan Franzen's Strong Motion, and I read 300 pages of it today. I just couldn't put it down. You probably remember the flap over his big best-seller, The Corrections -- the book Oprah chose for her book group, but Jonathan said no, and she un-chose it. Well, it's a damn good book and one of my all-time favorites. So I was thrilled to walk into B&N and find another book by him, even though he wrote it almost 10 years before The Corrections. His writing style is very Hemingway-esque, moving the plot along via dialogue and pithy, unflowery writing. I'd highly recommend it.

So here's my nondenominational happy holidays message: Enjoy your chocolate bunnies and ham or matzo and rugelah. Or just enjoy the weekend. I know I will.
