My left foot
I'm only getting to my daily posting duties now. That's because last night, M and I were hanging out on the couch together when the phone rang. I jumped out of my chair entirely too quickly. What happened next is sort of a blur and difficult to explain, but essentially my foot bent inversely inward and under.
Never in my life have I felt pain like that. I thought my head was going to explode. I couldn't even speak. M immediately jumped up to see if I was OK, and it took me a good minute to be able to answer him. I then promptly burst into tears, a completely visceral reaction. M helped me back onto the couch and consoled me. He helped me upstairs, and then he fell asleep. So I hobbled downstairs and watched Grey's Anatomy with an ice pack on my bum ankle for the length of the show. (BTW, was that episode smokin' or what?)
So I go back upstairs and go to bed. At this point, after an hour of icing, I can put light weight onto my foot. I figure all is well.
I barely slept last night. My foot throbbed worse and worse as the night went on. I tried to get out of bed this morning and couldn't put any weight on my foot. That scared the shit out of me, so I called out for M. He helped me get dressed and drove me to the local ER.
Well, I had X-rays, and it isn't broken, thank goodness. It is, however, severely swollen and sprained. The nurse fit me with an air cast, and I am now the proud owner of a pair of pedi crutches -- I was too shrimpy for even the smallest adult ones. PT had to come down and show me how to use the crutches, as I was attempting to hop around on them, and since my foot isn't broken, I can put some weight on it and just use the crutches as an aide in walking.
So I stayed home today. Aleve is my friend. Unfortunately, I was supposed to have dinner with the girlz from my old job tonight in Nashua. I had to bail. I'm sad. At least M is bringing home Chinese food.
