Wake me up
Last night, M and I went to a wake in Danvers. Yes, DANVERS. An hour-plus from home. (I seem to be spending a lot of time there lately -- considering half my family lives in that area, it's not surprising.) My mom's cousin died, and while I didn't know him very well, I went out of respect.
We got there at 7:30. The line was out the freaking door and onto the sidewalk. We waited in line for almost two hours. And it's not like a) you're waiting for anything good, like at Disneyland (so can't really insert a parallel here) or b) you can really hurry such a line along. He was in his late 50s and had a heart attack and was well-known and loved throughout the area. I have never seen so many flowers in my life. Of course, we get halfway through the line and my lil' bro and sister-in-law come sauntering through, asking why we didn't go through the front door since we're family (makes strangling noises).
Anyway, we left at almost 9:30, grabbed something to eat at the sub shop across the street, and boogalooed on home. We didn't get home until well past 11. Holy crap, am I tired today. I'm still glad I went. I can only imagine how exhausted his poor widow is.
The funeral is today. Rest in peace, Tony.
