Dam you, Quabbin!
Over Labor Day weekend, we did a bit o' shopping, a bit o' yardwork, a bit o' cookout-ing, a bit o' Olympic-style eating (our last hurrah before we start back on our diets) and yesterday, a bit o' road-tripping out to Quabbin Reservoir.
For my out-of-state readers: Quabbin is a 20-plus mile reservoir that was created in the '30s when four towns were flooded and essentially wiped off the map: Dana, Enfield, Prescott and Greenwich. It's a magnificently beautiful place, and its history always blows my mind. Whole towns lie under its serene waters. My hometown of Melrose gets its water from Quabbin, and Leominster is partially supplied.
Anyway, we were at Winsor Dam, right near the Belchertown (heh heh heh)/Ware line. We walked across it and back -- a full mile.
