My own episode of ER
M called me from his cell yesterday, completely freaking out. I had read him this article in Newsweek about blood thinners and strokes, and he had a pounding headache. He wanted to go to the local emergency room. I told him to do what he felt comfortable with and keep me posted. He then called back and said the doc covering for his PCP recommended the ER. So I met him there, and he was asleep in a chair, waiting to be seen. His head was pounding. They took his BP, and it was still elevated. So they brought him in, and we told the doc what was happening. They gave him a CAT scan, which came out clean. The doc came back in and told us that M's neurologist, the rheumatologist covering for his regular one and he himself all recommended an overnight stay for observation and a morning MRI if the headache persisted. M refused, so he walked out against medical advice and had to sign a bunch of papers to that effect.
To say I was pissed is an understatement. And to say I yelled at him all the way home is another one. I called my mom, and she pointed out that it is his decision. Still. He does feel better today, but he made me mad.
I know I've been posting a lot -- trying to get into the daily habit. I wish in some ways I didn't have so much to write about.
That is all.
