Snooze addiction

As I've said a million bazillion times, I am not a morning person. I stay in bed as long as humanly possible. And now with a little one on the way, I am extra beat. So I have developed an addiction to hitting the snooze on my alarm clock and being late for work. Every day I promise myself I won't do it, but then I do it again. Any advice on how to break the cycle? I need to get my candy ass out of bed.

How to wake up early

I am NOT a morning person. When I was a kid, my mom had to go into my room in combat gear to get me up. I still tend to run late in the morning, due to my tendency to want to squeeze every last minute of precious sleep out of the morning.

Well, when I ran across this site, full of tips on how to wake up early and actually (shudder) enjoy it, I groaned. Here's another fricking morning person trying to convert me to the dark side, I thought. But the tips are actually quite good. My fave: Keep a glass of water by your bed so you wake up inside and out. I think I may try it. But not tomorrow -- Saturday mornings are still sacrosanct in my house.

Those damn morning people

I have never been among the world's elite -- the morning people. You know these irritating folk -- jump out of bed at the crack of dawn and irritate the rest of us with their chipper, happy attitude. They make us feel lazy. They goad us out of bed. And they get shit done while I'm still rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.

I was born with a very cantankerous morning personality -- I used to throw shoes at anyone who came to wake me up. M has learned to leave me alone, although he gets up early on Saturday mornings (sweet time of rest for me) and then gives me crap about all the stuff he's gotten done while I was catching up on a week of hitting the snooze button and then dragging my lead-filled body out of bed. I live for the weekends. And as much as I want children, one thing I'm not looking forward to (to say the least) is the sleep deprivation.

I've heard from friend moms who have become reformed morning people that kids change your body clock and make you want to get up early. I'm not so sure about that. If you've got an opinion, share it. I'll be on my second caffienated beverage of the day. Bah.
