Went to a Red Sox fight and a game broke out

So Coco Crisp loses his shit on the Rays pitcher. You can see the whole fight here. The whole game was a brawlfest -- apparently Manny and Youk were yelling at each other earlier. It must be hard to play with the same guys for six months of the year. Still, the fight is quite entertaining to watch.

Good weekend. We have a graduation party, and possibly some postbaby body clothes shopping will be done.

Another reason Yankees suck

Their fans -- especially ones who run down Red Sox fans in a parking lot because they're trashed and are talking smack. You knew the national media were going to be all over this one, didn't you?

I can sympathize with the hawk

So a school group was touring Fenway Park, and a hawk decided they were getting too close to one of her eggs and attacked a little girl -- interestingly named Alexa Rodriguez. Also interesting: The egg was dead. Just goes to show that motherhood is, on a lot of levels, instinctual.

Last night's crushing of the Rockies

Holy crap, I wish I had watched last night's game. Check out this opinion piece about how good the Red Sox truly are.

We will not be naming our son this

Cubs-loving couple hangs the name Wrigley Fields on their son. I'm a baseball fan, but come on. Although I have seen some interesting names in our baby name book. Our current fave: For a fifth son, Quintavious.

Because if I see a commercial for his movie Good Luck Chuck one more time during baseball? I'm throwing the TV out the window.

And speaking of baseball: I don't think I'm watching anymore. Especially if Eric Gagne is pitching. Terry, what were you thinking?

I love you, Jon Papelbon

All the girlz drool over Tek, and while he's not bad, I have a thing for Jon Papelbon. He's cute, and he's a total lights-out closer. Any other chickies agree?

Get the broom

What can I say? Sigh. The optimist in me says the Red Sox are still up five games; the pessimist, that they gave up so much to the frigging Yankees. The eternal struggle, I guess.

Don't need no hateration

Now, tonight is the beginning of the rumble in the Bronx. You know what I'm talking about: The big three-game Red Sox/Yankees series. We're going in with a VERY COMFORTABLE eight-game lead (sorry, Mike!), so whatever happens is all good.

Growing up in the Boston area, it's always been amazing to me to see the passion people bring to the rivalry. I read recently that Fenway has banned Yankees Suck T-shirts and apparel. That doesn't even bother me as much as Jeter Swallows. I'm not a Yankees fan, but let's leave that kind of hateration outside. Play ball!

Slaughterhouse 4

Four games. Almost 50 runs scored, setting a new record. The opponent in the single digits. Home runs from a good chunk of the lineup. The other team's fans with bags over their heads. It doesn't get much better than this for Red Sox Nation. Bring on the Yankees!

Bostonians and their sports teams

Just found this bit about the passion of Boston sports fans. Married to a sports nut (whose game is football, not baseball, yet he's been known to yell at Terry Francona and Co. on NESN many a night in our house), I can attest to how true it is. Sports are like a religion around here. Hell, I'm only a bit above a casual baseball fan, and I am thrilled beyond words that Boston won last night and the Yankees (who SUCK) lost.

Asterisk or not, he broke a major record last night, propelling into the company of baseball's elite. It's news.

Now if only the Red Sox could beat the Angels...

Rock on, John Lester

As you've probably heard by now, the Red Sox/Indians game last night featured the triumphant return of pitcher John Lester, who was sidelined with lymphoma last year. He did a great job, and I was thrilled to see him back out there. As were his parents. Good for you, John. You're an inspiration to everyone.
