Friday linkorama

Yeah, it's rainy and gross, and I'm feeling a bit lazy. Here are some links that made me laugh this week.

The video for Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is really messed up. Here's a literal video version that made me laugh out loud. My favorite line: "What the effing crap/That angel just felt me up."

And on a similar note, does ANYONE know what Eddie Vedder is saying in Yellow Ledbetter? Here's one take on it.

From The Onion: Most of our days spent looking at glowing rectangles. It's funny because it's true.

Ever wonder what people do behind closed doors? The comments on this blog post are hysterical (and sometimes gross).

Finally, on a more serious note, two of my fellow mommy bloggers are having various degrees of a hard time. Julia is dealing with sick kids (I can relate -- Boo is getting over a virus with nasty high fevers), while gwendomama is trying to leave her abusive husband, who is being intimidating and crazy. Go show them some love.

Have a great weekend, and stay dry!

Reppisenting for my people

I am not Irish. I am about as Italian as the boot. And I found this video on YouTube (language alert) that sums up how my people communicate -- with their hands, a lot of profanity and very emphatically. Happy St. Patrick's Day to my Irish friends, but viva Italia!

Why I love Mariah Carey

Just found this old-school clip on YouTube of Mariah Carey singing Hero. It's a schmaltzy song, but she hits it out of the park, and the song has a lot of personal meaning for me. I remember watching this when it was on her Thanksgiving special and just getting goosebumps. Fifteen years later, I still do. She is just pure vocal talent.

Have a great weekend, everyone. We have a family obligation and some chillout time scheduled. And now, a message from Boo : Dadadadadadadada.

More fodder for my inner third grader

I am ashamed, but this made me laugh so hard tears were pouring down my face. Warning: Bad language alert, scatological humor and defacing of a childhood institution: Sesame Street. But I had to share. M and I were lying in bed last night talking about this and laughing so much we woke up the baby. (Hint: It's a parody of this.)

Now nothing seems as strange as when the leaves began to change

Love you, Kid Rock.

Lupus Walk was good, if wet -- yes, they had the walk anyway, despite the rain, and I was soaked to the bone at the end of it. Hey, if my husband can go through chemo, I can walk three miles in the rain. We raised more than $700 for lupus research. That's all that really matters.

This weather is glorious. Absolutely glorious. I have long sleeves, long pants and boots on. I love it. No air conditioning at night, no sweating. You cannot beat fall in New England.

Another reason to love Obama

He's got sweet-ass moves, as seen on the Ellen show. Putting politics aside, he is just so magnetic and eloquent. Go Obama!

More evidence I am a gay man trapped in a woman's body

I recently discovered the epic TV special Liza with a Z. In this YouTube age, I found a clip from it. I can't stop watching it. Liza Minnelli may be a pill-popping, gay-marrying headcase, but she's also mad talented. Watch at your own risk -- of becoming a fan.

George Michael still rocks

The first concert I ever went to was George Michael's Faith tour 20 years ago at what was then called Great Woods. (Damn, I'm old.) This is one of my favorite songs from Faith. It still rocks, and although I know he's not into girls, he's still hawt. Listen Without Prejudice is a very underrated album and one of my favorites. Listen to Cowboys and Angels and tell me it's not an amazing song. And check out the recent video for Freek -- great stuff. I've been thinking I might want to see him on tour, a sort of then and now experience.

UPDATED TO ADD: Looks like I missed the tour. Balls.

I cracked a tooth and I hate it

Sorry, got that damn I Kissed a Girl song in my head. Damn you Katy Perry. Although I did pick up One of the Boys yesterday, and I'm enjoying the mindless pop of it all.

So as for the title of this post: At the dentist yesterday, I discovered I cracked one of my molars. So I need another crown. This follows the Great Insurance-Eating Root Canal and Crown of 2007. Even with insurance, we're looking at half a grand. Bleh. I need to get it fixed before I need a root canal. Sore teeth suck.

Paris for president

McCain uses Paris in his attack ads on Obama? Well, Paris fires back. Funny. I'd vote for her based on this.

Break on through to the other side

Boo's toofie FINALLY broke through his bottom gum. Hooray. He doesn't want me to look at it. He's also got another one right behind it, so he's been up several times a night. It has not been fun in Casa Christine. Although Nana (my mom) and I took the Boo to the Stone Zoo yesterday. He loved it, especially the flamingos. I used to spend every weekend there as a kid. Ah, memories.

There is only ONE Steve Perry

Being from Melrose, I worship at the altar of Journey. But only the Steve Perry Journey. Not this Steve Augeri crap. I heard through the grapevine that since Augeri blew out his vocal chords a few years ago, they had a new lead singer, Arnel Pineda, who'd they'd discovered on YouTube and was a dead ringer for Steve vocally. I had to hear for myself and found this. Holy crap, my mouth was hanging open. Arnel is not Steve, but he is damn close. Still, I won't buy the album.

The 7 words you can't say on television

I found this on YouTube -- still one of the most amazing comedy routines ever, George Carlin or no. As a word lover, you have to appreciate it. Watch at your own risk. It goes without saying there's bad language.

Top 5 songs about dads and their kids

I'm a little late, since Father's Day was Sunday. But I've been dealing with a teething baby. He's doing OK -- just really stuffy and coughy. If any parents who've been through it have any teething words of wisdom, I'm all ears.

1) Cat's in the Cradle by Harry Chapin: A cautionary tale.

2) The Last Song by Elton John: Son is dying of AIDS, dad comes to see him. Just try to listen to it without crying.

3) Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) by John Lennon: I sing this one to the Boo all the time.

4) The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics: Another tearjerker. We sang this for choir in high school, and there was nary a dry eye in the house.

5) Oh Father by Madonna: The dark side of the father/daughter relationship. The video is full of absolutely arresting images.

Went to a Red Sox fight and a game broke out

So Coco Crisp loses his shit on the Rays pitcher. You can see the whole fight here. The whole game was a brawlfest -- apparently Manny and Youk were yelling at each other earlier. It must be hard to play with the same guys for six months of the year. Still, the fight is quite entertaining to watch.

Good weekend. We have a graduation party, and possibly some postbaby body clothes shopping will be done.

UPDATED: As Reid pointed out, MLB took down the video. Here is a shorter one that's still available.

One of the seminal moments of the '80s

M and I were watching VH1's list of the top 100 songs of the '80s last night. Billie Jean was up there, and they mentioned Michael Jackson's performance complete with moonwalk. Found it on YouTube. Amazing, even now.

One of my all-time favorite songs

Since we're all thinking about song craftsmanship and voice versus presence (Archie versus Cookie in American Idol -- the better man won, IMHO), I thought I'd post the video to one of my all-time favorite jams. Yes, I am a dork, but Barbra Streisand...can anyone touch her voice? And the Bee Gees -- it's a winning combination.
