Is it me, or did Grey's Anatomy go too far?

Check out these scenes from last night. I have no problem with the lesbian thing. My issue is Mark going down on Callie to show her how to do it. A little much for primetime TV, IMHO. Anyone agree?

I stayed up late for that?

I had been eagerly awaiting the Grey's Anatomy premiere all summer. Four months, to be exact. I put the Boo to bed and snuggled on the couch to watch it from 9 to 11 p.m. (way past my normal bedtime).

Man, what a disappointment.

Meredith: Stop whining. Alex: Stop being an asshole. Chief: Yelling at people isn't going to necessarily make them perform. Izzie: Give up on Alex. And hey, Shonda Rhimes: Thanks for suckering me in to watch when I'm all tired today and it so wasn't worth it.

Have a great weekend, everyone. I was going to hit the Bolton Fair, but it's looking like the weather isn't going to cooperate. We may take a sojourn up to Maine as well.

How could they end it like this?

I hope Derek comes back to Meredith. I hope she waits.

Feeling grey over Grey's Anatomy

So. All week long, I was jazzed for last night's Grey's Anatomy. Would Mere die? Who else was going to kick it? Was she in limbo?

Stop reading right now if you haven't seen the epi yet. OK, if you read on, don't say I didn't warn you.

I thought last night's episode was kind of maudlin and contrived. I felt very emotionally manipulated at the end of it. Also, I knew what was going to happen before it did -- partially because of my unbridled addiction to spoilers. A few scenes made me tear up, like when Denny passed by Izzie in the hallway and she felt him. The otherworldly hug (or the Celestial Massengil moment, as someone called it on the Television Without Pity boards) made me teary too. I thought the "try one more time to save her" line was pretty lame. I will say I thought she was going to kick it when they were telling her in the afterlife that there was no more time. I had to play Tetris during the commercials to keep from biting my fingernails.

I will also say that the afterlife in general is a very emotional subject for me. Both me and M have lost friends our own ages to cancer. The only thing that keeps me comforted about losing my friend is the thought she goes on. Talking to me about it is like touching the third rail -- just very sharp and real. M and I have agreed to disagree on this. But I digress.

Good part of the epi: Mer/Der. Man, great acting jobs all around. You really believe these two are soul mates and adore one another -- much to Addison's chagrin. Maybe that's why she may be shoving off.

This is why I love Grey's Anatomy

When we collide, we'll see what gets left over

The title of this post is a line from Gomez's How We Operate, my favorite track on the aforementioned Grey's Anatomy soundtrack volume 2.

I adore my husband, in case you haven't picked up on this fact, and I consider myself very happily married. He's my soul mate, the yin to my yang, yadda yadda yadda. But I often wonder how much of me I've given up to be married. I'm a very independent person at heart -- I never thought I'd be married at the age of 28 -- and I do still love my alone time. While being married has without a doubt enriched my life and made me happier, I sometimes wonder: What about me?

I'm not the only one pondering these existential questions. Check out Trish's post about wanting to medicate herself into oblivion to not feel the pain of her occasional marital issues.

OK, this scene from Grey's Anatomy pisses me off

It's not just your choice, Derek. Meredith loves you. You. Not Finn.

Two CD shoutouts

I've been grooving to some new discs in my car. Wanted to give them their propers, especially since one of the artists is my cousin:
  • Grey's Anatomy soundtrack, Volume 2: After a steady diet of Top 40 and other such mindless crapola, I wanted some different, good, interesting music. I got it with this fabu compilation. Every song is amazing -- even though I've only heard of one of the artists (KT Tunstall) . My favorites: Sexy Mistake by The Chalets, How We Operate by Gomez, Miss Halfway by Anya Marina and Jamie Lidell's Multiply. Rockin'.
  • Double or Nothing -- Minus: This is an independent CD. And there's some seriously rough language and drug references here (a little weird when you remember holding the rapper as a baby...) But even though he's family, Minus knocks my socks off with his vocal talent and writing abilities. Seriously. You can buy this CD through CD Baby, which is linked to from his Web site, which also includes song snippets if you want to try before you buy.
